Coming up the Lagan in a Bubble!

Belfast Trust Fostering Service has marked World Social Work day by coming up the Lagan in a bubble!

Foster carers, social workers and young people took to the water to try out a range of waterborn crafts including kayaks and zorbs.

Social Worker, June Martin, who organized the event said: “World Social Work Day is the key day in the year that social workers worldwide stand together to celebrate the achievements of the profession and take the message into their communities, workplaces and to their governments to raise awareness of social work contributions.

"This year’s theme is ‘Promoting Community and Environmental Sustainability’. As part of the wider fostering family, we took in the sights of Belfast from a totally different perspective while at the same time building confidence and team work skills and improving health and wellbeing of both social workers and the young people we work with in the fostering setting.

"We were delighted to be able to offer the opportunity for young people and foster carers to try out new skills right in the centre of Belfast – the Lagan is the heart blood of the city and we want to encourage our young people to feel proud and connected to their home town.”
