Industrial action update

02/12/2019

Belfast Trust understands the distress and anxiety that will be caused by upcoming industrial action and the decision to cancel a number of planned appointments. The Trust is sincerely sorry for the significant impact this is likely to have on patients, but the safety of our patients is our number one concern.

We will be writing to all affected patients to provide a rescheduled appointment or admission date as soon as possible. Due to the extraordinary circumstances and the large number of people affected, we would ask that people do not ring the Trust to reschedule their appointment. We can assure our patients that we will be in touch with them in due course.

The Trust can clarify that a limited number of outpatient appointments detailed below will go ahead on Monday 2nd December, Tuesday 3rd December and Thursday 5th December.

  • If your appointment is at a Health and Wellbeing Centre, please attend as normal. Appointments at Health and Wellbeing Centres are not affected.
  • If your appointment is at a community facility, please attend as normal. Appointments at community facilities are not affected.
  • If you have an appointment for scheduled chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment at either the Bridgewater Suite or the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital, please attend as normal. Your appointment is not cancelled.
  • If you have an appointment at the Macular Clinic at Fairview, please attend as normal. Your appointment is not cancelled.
  • If you have a paediatric oncology appointment at the Children’s Hospital, please attend as normal. Your appointment is not cancelled.
  • If you have an obstetrics or antenatal appointment at the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital, please attend as normal. Your appointment is not cancelled.

Please note that emergency services and day centres are not affected by this industrial action.

The Trust would like to clarify that on Monday 2nd December, Tuesday 3rd December and Thursday 5th December, all other outpatient appointments, day case procedures and planned surgeries / planned admissions are postponed on the following hospital sites:

  • Royal Victoria Hospital
  • Children’s Hospital
  • School of Dentistry
  • Belfast City Hospital
  • Mater Hospital
  • Musgrave Park Hospital

On Wednesday 4th December, all outpatient services will run as normal. However, all day case procedures and planned surgeries / planned admissions are postponed on the following hospital sites:

  • Royal Victoria Hospital
  • Children’s Hospital
  • School of Dentistry
  • Belfast City Hospital
  • Mater Hospital
  • Musgrave Park Hospital

On Friday 6th December, it is anticipated that all services will be delivered as normal.

Once again, we are extremely sorry for the disruption this decision will cause.
