Unscheduled and Acute Care

The Belfast Trust provides a wide range of unscheduled and acute care services which are provided from a number of wards across the 3 main acute hospital sites in Belfast - the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast City Hospital and the Mater Hospital.

Emergency Departments

2 Adult Emergency departments operate from the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Mater hospital, servicing the population of the Greater Belfast area and beyond (approx 340,000 people). On average there are approximately 200,000 Emergency department attendances each year.

The Trust also manages the GP Out of Hours Service for the Belfast. Approximately 95,000 calls are made to this service each year. Telephone advice is always provided for patients and clients and may be followed up with either home or centre visits.
