Sensory Support Services

Sensory Support service for adults with hearing loss, sight loss or dual sensory loss

The Sensory Support Team provide social work, technical aid and rehabilitation for service users with hearing loss, sight loss or dual sensory loss from age 18 upwards living in Belfast. They also provide mobility training to children under 18. To best meet the needs of our service users, the Sensory Support Team work alongside a range of voluntary agencies and other services in Belfast Trust.

What we do

We provide a range of services including:

  • Individual Assessment
  • Risk Assessment
  • Social Work support for service users and families
  • Assessment and provision of specialist equipment
  • Independent living skill assessment and training if required
  • Mobility and orientation assessments for independent travel
  • Providing information and advice to service users and their families
  • Providing Sign language communication support for Deaf service users
  • Arranging registration for service users with sight loss
  • Support at Low Vision Clinic
  • Support for Audiology Clinic
  • Liaising with voluntary agencies, and re-directing to voluntary agencies or other Trust Services if appropriate
  • Providing Sensory Disability Awareness Training to healthcare professionals and others involved with service users

All of the above services can be facilitated in service user’s home, school or in the service user’s workplace.

Who can request support?

The Programme has an open referral system in place and will accept referrals from

  • Service users
  • Family Members or Carers
  • GPs and other Healthcare professionals
  • VoluntaryOrganisations
