Urology Services

This service deals with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the Kidney, Bladder, Prostate and reproductive organs. Around 40% of the work of urology services is cancer-related.
The urology service can be divided into sub-specialties that manage all urological conditions including diagnosis and treatment for:

  • Bladder cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Other non–cancerous urological conditions such as kidney stones.

The urology team is made up of urology surgeons, anaesthetists, nursing staff, imaging staff, allied health professionals and administration staff.


How to access this service

The team provide general urology services for people living in Belfast, and a number of specialist regional services for people from across Northern Ireland

There are two ways of accessing urology services:

  • As an emergency
  • Referred via a GP or another clinician.

Patients are referred to urology services when there are suspected or potential urological problems for assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
