The Trust continues to perform well against Department of Health targets for the reduction of MRSA bacteraemias and Clostridium difficile . We reduced our MRSA bacteraemias by 27 % and Clostridium difficile cases by 50% last year.

Commenting on the improvements, Minister for Health Michael McGimpsey said ‘The remarkable reduction reflects the huge effort of health care staff and indeed the public in tackling these infections and improving care for patients.’

Thanks to everyone coming into our hospitals - patients, visitors and staff, for their efforts in realising this reduction, we feel confident that these efforts can be sustained.

MRSA

Trust initiatives aimed at reducing MRSA blood stream infections include improving hand hygiene compliance and improved care of invasive devices as well as improving vascular access in the dialysis population.
