Belfast Trust receives quarter of all emergency care attendances in Northern Ireland


Recent statistics released by the Department of Health show that over one in four (27%) attendances at emergency care departments during 2009/10 were in the Belfast Trust. That amounts to 188,928 people coming through the doors of our A&Es.

The statistics released give details of the activity at emergency care departments during the year ending 31 March 2010 and waiting times during the month of June 2010.

Other key facts and figures:
• Between 2005/06 and 2009/10, the total number of attendances at emergency care departments increased by 4%, from 698,937 to 727,935
• During the month of June 2010, 85.6% patients were either treated and discharged or admitted within four hours of their arrival in an emergency care department, compared to 82.8% in May 2010 and 82.8% in April 2010
• During the last five years, the proportion of immediately life threatening calls (category A) responded to within 8 minutes has increased by 21%

The emergency care departments at the Belfast Trust are committed to ensuring a high quality service for patients while continuing to work to reducing waiting times.
