Backcare Awareness Week - 11-15 October

11/10/2010

This year’s theme, “Beyond the Box” aims to get people thinking about the less obvious causes of back pain, those hidden lifts or awkward postures which are not “box shaped.” We are asked to consider all aspects of life not just those that are work based, where staff tend to be more safety conscious.

This year’s theme, “Beyond the Box” aims to get people thinking about the less obvious causes of back pain, those hidden lifts or awkward postures which are not “box shaped.” We are asked to consider all aspects of life not just those that are work based, where staff tend to be more safety conscious.

In work we may not think twice about over reaching to retrieve something from a high shelf, slouching in front of our PC or carrying laptops/equipment around.

At home we may be off-guard, out of the work environment and may move furniture around ourselves, think nothing of carrying a child around whilst doing the housework or lifting too many shopping bags. What about those prolonged postures we get into, stooping in the garden or loading dishwashers?

It isn’t just the heavy box we need to think about with regard to back injuries.

This year the Ergonomic team will join forces with their colleagues in Health & Safety for European Health & Safety week from 25 -28 October 2010. There will be a road show on various hospitals throughout the Trust and we will be there to distribute information on Backcare and answer any questions you may have.

Backcare is an organisation that aims to promote awareness of back pain and the issues surrounding it including preventative measures and treatment.
