The Multi-Agency Belfast Area Sexual Health Project Board, facilitated by Belfast Trust has recently produced a brand new resource for young people in the area of relationships and sexual health. Entitled ‘Unique’, it is designed to help inform young people in the areas of friendship, love, dating and sex.

The leaflet was developed by The Faith Sub-Group which was formed in 2009 as part of the Belfast Area Sexual Health Project Board. The sub group consists of members from the 4 larger denominations and other faith organisations as well as experts in the area of youth work and health.

New Website

To help support the use of this ‘Unique’ leaflet the group have just launched a new website http://www.unique-ni.org to advise parents, teachers and leaders as they relate to young people on these issues. The website will contain lesson plans, group activities, games, theory and practical hints on how to help guide young people in their relationships.

Commenting on the launch of this website Dickie Barr, a group member and GP, said ‘The Valentines message to young people often focuses solely on romance and sex. When we talked to young people however we found that the consistent message from them was that good relationships were more important than romance and sex. In response to this we developed the Unique resource and website to focus on teaching healthy relationships to young people. This is something that is a priority to both Faith organisations and health and social care service and it has been very beneficial to partner with the Belfast Trust on this issue. I would commend this resource to all those working with or parenting young people – particularly aged 12-14.’
