Celebrating 25 Years of Bruce House

This week Bruce House, a purpose built specialist residential facility for older people suffering from dementia and related illnesses celebrated its 25 year anniversary. The Home opened in 1986 and is now one of five specialist residential units across Belfast Trust offering short and long term care.

The unit provides 26 long stay beds, 4 respite beds and up to 3 day care place per day. The home operates at full capacity and holds a waiting list. Bruce House has been very closely associated with the local community of North Belfast and has played a major role in offering a dementia service to its residents. In turn, the home receives tremendous support from the families of its residents, voluntary organisation and the local community.

Bruce House is dedicate to developing a flexible, specialist, responsive, needs led and person centred approach to dementia care. To meet this aim the staff constantly seek out ways to work in partnership with carers, professionals, other agencies and the wider community to be creative in meeting the needs of people with dementia.
