Staff commended for efforts following bus incident

Trust Director Jennifer Welsh, has paid tribute to staff who dealt calmly and professionally with casualties following an incident in which a double-decker bus overturned in Belfast city centre.

A total of 30 casualties were treated at the Royal, City and Mater hospitals.

Jennifer, the Incident Director, said “everyone worked very well together in a calm and professional manner.”

“the Ambulance Service identified early in the incident, that the Royal had the capacity to cope with the casualities, but in order to allow normal business to continue, the patients were treated on a number of different hospital sites.”

A special support centre for relatives was also opened on the Royal site, and the vast majority of patients were walking wounded.
