Belfast Trust supporting sustainable travel

21/09/2011

Health Minister Edwin Poots was welcomed by Belfast Trust Chairman, Pat McCartan when he visited the RVH to receive a copy of Belfast Trusts Workplace Travel Plan, which was launched as part of European Mobility Week.

The main object of the plan is to encourage staff to choose sustainable modes of transport to and from work, as well as for business journeys. We hope to reduce the number of single car occupancy trips and increase the use of car sharing, cycling, public transport and walking.

Several initiatives are already in place including a car share scheme, a cycle to work scheme and the tax smart initiative for those using public transport. Encouraging as many people as possible to leave the car at home will not only have a positive effect on the environment, it helps ease ongoing pressure on our car parks, as well as promoting a healthier lifestyle!
