Update on C Difficile (23 Nov)

23/11/2011

Belfast Trust is restricting admissions to Ward 4F of the Royal Victoria Hospital following an increased incidence of Clostridium Difficile. Families visiting relatives in the ward, which primarily treats neurosurgery patients are being asked to strictly observe the Trust’s visiting policy of two people at the bedside and good hand hygiene practice while in the ward. Visitors are also being asked not to bring children onto the ward.

Brenda Creaney, Director of Nursing and User Experience said “ We are concerned about the potential for an outbreak and have therefore put in place stringent measures to protect our patients. Any disruption to planned admissions will be communicated to patients directly. We hope the public will support us in this.”

The situation will be kept under review.
