Unreported x-rays - helpline available for concerned patients

Belfast Trust has identified a large number of x-rays in its computer system in the Royal Victoria Hospital dating back to 2007 which may not have been formerly reported. The x-rays date from 2007 to 2010 and number approximately 15,500. If members of the public are concerned a help line has been established.

The helpline number is 9063 0500 and will be available from Saturday onwards 9am – 5pm.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the unreported x-rays and immediate action has been taken to review every unreported x-ray.

Dr Tony Stevens, Medical Director, said, ‘The Trust wishes to apologise for this situation and recognises the concern members of the public may have. Staff have been working around the clock to ensure that these x-rays will be read as quickly as possible. An action plan agreed with the Public Health Agency / Health and Social Care Board has been put in place for the reporting of x-rays from 2007-2010 over the next six weeks.’
