Vomiting Bug - public asked for help in preventing the spread of infection

There has been an increase in vomiting and diarrhoea among a number of patients at Belfast City Hospital. Vomiting and diarrhoea, while contagious, normally passes within 48 hours.

Brenda Creaney, Director of Nursing and User experience at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust said, ‘I am asking the public for their help in preventing the spread of infection. Please do not visit the hospital if you have had vomiting and diarrhoea; please be diligent in your hand washing when entering and leaving wards or clinical areas; please do not bring food on to the ward. I would ask you to observe our visiting policy of no more than two visitors per patient, and where possible, please do not bring children to the wards, to ensure they do not become ill.’
