Should Belfast Trust become Smoke Free?

12/12/2014

Should Belfast Trust become Smoke Free across all our sites?

• Smoking continues to be the single greatest cause of preventable illness and death in Northern Ireland, claiming approximately 2300 lives each year.

• Belfast Trust is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of the population it serves and of our staff.

• We are proposing to achieve Smoke Free sites during 2015. This would mean that no-one would be allowed to smoke anywhere on Trust sites including grounds

As a responsible healthcare provider, having Smoke Free sites would mean

• A positive step in reducing the risks to public health from smoking

• Actively encouraging smokers to quit and offering support with quitting

The Minister for Health and Chief Medical Officer have both strongly urged all Trusts to go completely Smoke Free (including all Trust facilities, grounds and vehicles) as soon as possible. Western Trust along with many from UK and Ireland have already successfully made this move.

We want to know what you think of a Smoke Free BHSCT.

Please complete the survey whether you are a smoker or a non-smoker and return on or before Friday 19 December 2014.
