Belfast City Hospital Tower Block Celebrates Thirtieth Birthday

Thirty years ago today on 6th January 1986, Ward Manager Siobhan Boyle wheeled one of the first patients into the new Belfast City Hospital Tower Block.

The opening of the Tower Block was a significant milestone in the development of Health Care in Belfast and that of Northern Ireland and it was a special occasion for Siobhan who has gone to become an indispensable part of the team in the City Hospital.

Having trained and qualified at the City hospital prior to the building of the Tower Block in 1984 Siobhan went on to work in Musgrave Park Hospital, before on 6th January 1986 joining the team at Belfast City Hospital Tower Block, working across different departments, until she settled in Ward 7 North.

Commenting on her time Siobhan said: I have to thank my friends and colleagues in the hospital for reminding me of this.....thankfully they don’t have the original photo from 1986!
.....Over the last 30 years I have seen a lot of positive changes with regards to patient care at the hospital and I have to say whilst there have been some tough days, I have really enjoyed my time here.
The friendly and caring attitude of my colleagues has made the time fly and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my colleagues and management past and present over the years who have been a great support......I look forward to another 30 years.
(She says with a smile)

Thank You from everyone at Belfast Trust to Siobhan, and all others who have cared for our patients for more than thirty years
