Staff flu vaccination drive begins today

With flu season upon us once again, Belfast Trust is determined to make 2015/16 the year we achieve Northern Ireland’s highest rate of staff seasonal flu vaccinations.

The vaccinations, which are available free of charge to all front line health and social care employees, enable staff to not only protect themselves from this year’s strain of the flu virus, but also their families, colleagues and patients.

Dr Michael McBride (pictured), chief executive at Belfast Trust, commented: “In Belfast Trust, we have many sick and vulnerable people in our care, and it is our duty to protect them from flu.  That’s why the team here at Belfast Trust have been really involved and proactive with the flu vaccination campaign, and are determined to increase the amount of people taking up the vaccination in 2015/16.

"We encourage all of our frontline staff to have their flu vaccination. Not only is this a quick and simple procedure, with little or no side effects, but it can also save lives. The vaccination will protect our employees this winter, and also their families, colleagues and patients.”

If you work in Belfast Trust and have direct patient contact, please get your flu vaccination as soon as possible.  Clinics are running on the main hospital sites throughout October, and peer vaccinators are available in many locations and facilities.  See the hub for details.

The public flu campaign is also underway, and more details can be found at
