Laboratories named Placement Employer of the Year

Belfast Trust Laboratories were named Placement Employer in the Public Sector category at the recent Ulster University’s Annual Impact Excellence Awards for 2017.

Leading organisations across a wide range of sectors have been recognised for their commitment to graduate employability and research at Ulster University’s inaugural Impact Excellence Awards.

The Laboratories of the Belfast Trust received the award at the ceremony, held on 11 May 2017. This win follows last year’s success, when The Laboratories received a “highly commended” certificate at the Ulster University Placement Employer of the Year Awards 2016.

From more than 180 applications, 35 partnerships were shortlisted into categories across employability and research, with Belfast Trust Laboratories being shortlisted in the public sector category. To win this award was a great achievement and recognition of the continuing commitment the Belfast Trust Laboratories provide to UU placement students each year.

Laboratories facilitate a 52 week placement programme each year for up to 8 Ulster University students undertaking the degree programme in Biomedical Sciences. During placement the students undertake a major part of their Health and Care Professions Council professional registration training, which is also a reflection of the quality service provided by the laboratories.

Pictured centre accepting the award are Mr Sean Conlan, Immunology Discipline Manager and Laboratory Training Co-ordinator and Mrs Sharon Burridge, Training Co-ordinator from Biochemistry.  The award was presented by Mr Paul Clark, UTV journalist and presenter, and Mr Michael Gould from the Department for the Economy.

Congratulations go to all the trainers, mentors and staff involved with training throughout the Laboratories of the Belfast Trust.
