Success at National Patient Safety Awards


Iveagh Unit, Belfast Trust Learning Disability Services have been awarded the prestigious Health Service Journal Patient Safety Award for Learning Disability Services at a glittering award ceremony in Manchester on 4th July 2017.

The Service won the Award for their project ‘Developing Positive Behaviour Support ethos in an Assessment and Intervention Inpatient Unit’.

The nomination reflected the positive changes within Iveagh Unit following the implementation of a Positive Behaviour Support Model ethos which has improved patient safety and outcomes, reduced restrictive practices and improved ways of working for the multi-disciplinary staff team. 

On 11th May 2017 the service was shortlisted following a presentation by Dr McConnell, Psychologist, Kathleen Hudson, Ward Sister and Amanda Scott, Staff Nurse to the judging panel in London which expanded upon the brief they had submitted. 


The team were delighted to attend the conference and awards ceremony hosted in Manchester and are extremely pleased to have won the award considering the high standard of the other entrants.
