Photographic Win at Biomedical Science Day

Belfast Trust’s Alan Montague was recently awarded the Best Artistic Interpretation Award for his photograph of Trust colleague Chinta Chisambo by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).

The awards followed the IMBS’s Biomedical Science Day on 19th July 2017, which highlighted the importance of biomedical science and the vital role that it plays in the world of healthcare. They also aimed to raise public awareness of careers within the field.

IBMS chose to hold Biomedical Science Day on July 19th as it coincided with the 135th birthday of Albert Norman MBE, founder of the Institute.

Chinta, a specialist Biomedical Scientist at the Histopathology Laboratory, Belfast City Hospital, joined the Trust as a trainee Biomedical Scientist with a Queen’s University honours degree in Biomedical Science. During the course of his employment with the Trust, he has obtained his registration as a Biomedical Scientist, a Specialist Institute of Biomedical Science diploma and an MSc in Biomedical Science. Chinta is currently undertaking an Institute of Biomedical Science Diploma in Specimen Dissection, which he hopes will allow him to progress further within his chosen field of Dissection.

Alan, currently an Associate Practitioner in the Histology Department, is an avid photographer in his spare time. He took the winning photograph at the end of a busy day for Chinta.

Belfast Trust also received a special mention and a prize for efforts to promote and celebrate Biomedical Science on Biomedical Science Day across its social media channels.
