Annual Fostering Achievement Awards

Belfast’s landmark Titanic Building provided the perfect setting for almost 90 children and young people from the Belfast Trust area as they took part in the annual Fostering Achievement Awards on Saturday 20 April 2013.

Children in care are one group of children where there is particular concern regarding their academic achievement, traditionally falling behind the rest of the population.

The Fostering Achievement Awards recognise the achievements of children and young people who are in foster care and cover a variety of areas including academic, social and sporting successes.

Catherine Young, Principal Social Worker Belfast Trust Fostering Service, who coordinated the ceremony said “Belfast Trust is delighted that so many children received awards. Not only do the children and young people gain a huge sense of achievement from this but they also have a really enjoyable day where they celebrate with a splash!!

She added, “While the Awards recognise the accomplishments of the children and young people it is also an opportunity for Belfast Trust to acknowledge the wonderful job foster carers do in giving children and young people the secure homes they need to develop their potential.

We greatly value the contribution and efforts foster carers makes to the lives of children and young people and the Trust is extremely proud of the service it offers to all foster carers and their families.”

Belfast Trust would like to hear from anyone who is interested in fostering.

The Trust considers applications regardless of age, marital status or sexual orientation. A comprehensive support package is provided to all foster carers.
