The ‘Radiotherapy Patient Open Evenings’ Team have been chosen as NI Radiography Team of the Year.

Speaking about the success Gaile Smyth said “this is a great achievement for Angela and all of the radiographers involved in the Patient Open Evenings, and for everyone in the radiotherapy department. Their work and personal commitment to providing the best for patients, from research and development to infoation and support improving the patient experience on all levels, it’s so good to have it recognised. We’re all very proud!.”

The awards are also great news for leading charity Friends of the Cancer Centre, as it funds a number of the award winning posts. Colleen Shaw, Chief Executive of Friends of the Cancer Centre, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled for Angela and the radiotherapy team for being awarded such prestigious accolades. Friends of the Cancer Centre has been funding Angela O’Neill’s post for over 12 years and during that time she has been making great strides in her research – research which is having a direct impact on patients. We also fund Lindsey Anderson, Information and Support Radiographer, who is part of the team who put on the extremely beneficial open evenings for patients. These awards recognise the great people that we have working in the Cancer Centre and the dedication they have to improving patients’ lives. We are extremely proud of them and we wish them the best of luck for the national finals in London in November. “

The award ceremony will take place in London at the House of Commons on 11 November 2014.
