Dying Matters Awareness Week 18-24 May 2015 Talk! Plan! Live!

18/05/2015

Talking about death doesn't bring death closer. It's about planning for life.

Belfast Trust is supporting Dying Matters Awareness Week again this year. The aim of this week is to get people talking about dying, death and bereavement and making plans for their end of life.

Did you know?

  • just 36% of adults have made a will
  • 29% of adults have let someone know their funeral wishes
  • just 6% of adults have written down wishes or preferences about the care they would want if they couldn’t make decisions
  • 51% of people with a partner were unaware of their wishes (ComRes 2014)

During the week, we will be encouraging members of the public, our staff and visitors to take five simple steps to make their end of life experience better, both for them and for their loved ones. These are:

Things you can do to support Dying Matters Awareness Week

  • Attend a roadshow and write on one of the ‘life list’ walls
  • Share an item on your ‘life list’ on social media using: Hashtag #yodo (you only die once) Handle @belfasttrust
  • Think about your own plans
  • Talk to friends and family about your wishes and plans

There will be roadshows in six Trust sites with information stands and our popular ‘list list’ wall where our visitors and staff can think about their ‘life list’ (things they want to do before they die) and write these on the wall.
