NI Health and Social Care Interpreting Service Award

Representatives of the Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Interpreting Service attended the Institute of Healthcare Management Awards evening at the Titanic Building in Belfast recently.

The Service, which is led by the Belfast HSC Trust, received 3rd prize in the Health and Social Care Quality Awards out of a potential 67 entries.

This prize, coupled with the recent HPMA national first prize in Equality and Diversity, is testament to the on-going success of the service and its drive and determination in meeting the ever increasing need for minority ethnic language support in health and social care. The Service now has a register of 354 self-employed professional interpreters in a range of 36 different languages working in health and social care across Northern Ireland.

With the advent of Transforming Your Care and the emphasis on person centred health and social care, interpreters will continue to be an intrinsic part of the professional service provision.
