Volunteer Event 2015

A special event was held at Belfast City Hall to celebrate and acknowledge the many volunteers who offer up their time, energy and commitment to volunteering.

Val McGarrell, Non-Executive Director said the event was an opportunity to celebrate the work of volunteers and volunteer week is a wonderful way of recognising the efforts and achievements of those who selflessly dedicate their time and abilities to helping others. She thanked all the volunteers for ‘their time, contribution and care , and the support they provide to existing services in a variety of roles’.

Brenda Creaney, Executive Director of Nursing and User Experience paid tribute to the 360 volunteers in the Trust and said ‘your dedication has helped to support our service, and improve the patient experience in both the acute and community settings. Thank you for your time, generosity, care dedication and compassion’.

The Lord Mayor Arder Carson joined with the volunteers for lunch.

Ruth Thompson, Macmillan Development Manager said 'I have nothing but praise for the volunteers with their individual and collective skills and commitment, they go the ‘extra mile’ offering high quality information and support to people affected by cancer and are truly deserving of this celebration today’.

Six Volunteers shared their own experiences and provided an insight into their different roles and spoke about how and why they became volunteers and how this has impacted on their own lives. Their stories were very emotional and moving for all present.

Arts Care musicians performed during the event and there was a special performance from Orbit Dance Company.
