Vomiting Virus

There has been an increase in vomiting and diarrhoea (Noro virus) among a number of patients at Belfast City Hospital. Vomiting and diarrhoea, while contagious, normally passes within 48 hours.

This bug is currently in the community and some patients have symptoms on admission.

Brenda Creaney, Executive Director of Nursing and User Experience at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust said, ‘Although all the appropriate measures are being taken to eliminate the virus. I am asking the public for their help in preventing the spread of infection.

Please do not visit the hospital if you have had vomiting and diarrhoea; please be diligent in your hand washing when entering and leaving wards or clinical areas; please do not bring food or fruit on to the ward.

I would also ask visitors observe our visiting policy of no more than two visitors per patient, and where possible, please do not bring children to the wards, to ensure they do not become ill.’
