Work Experience
Work Experience Programme (16-18 year olds) The Trust provides a work experience programme for 16-18 year olds to help them make decisions about their academic and career choices. If you are interested in gaining work experience with us, application can be made through Charter – our work experience brokers. We try to facilitate as many requests as possible, however, this is not always possible depending on the level of demand for places in certain disciplines and specialties.
How to Apply
Students can apply for a work experience by completing a Charter application form which should be available from the careers teacher in your school or college. The application is submitted by the careers teacher on your behalf.
For Careers Teachers
If you are a Careers teacher and want to find out more about Charter, go to their website: http://charter-ni.com/site/careers/
Placements and Electives
The Trust also offers placement opportunities to help people enhance their career, do research or simply develop themselves. People on placement are supernumerary - this means that they do not receive payment from Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.
Honorary Contracts
To undertake a placement you need to be issued with an Honorary contract which allows access to the premises, property or business of the Trust. Honorary Contracts are also issued to students wishing to undertake a medical elective.
How to apply
Individuals wishing to apply for an Honorary Contract should contact either the Service area where they wished to be placed or Learning and Development to discuss the possibility of a placement. If you can be facilitated, then we will ask you to complete an application pack and submit it to the manager who will be overseeing the placement.
It may be necessary, depending on the nature of the placement, for students to undergo an Access Ni check prior to the Honorary Contract being issued.
We try to facilitate as many placement requests as possible, but it is not always possible due to service needs or high levels of demand in certain disciplines and specialties.
