Work Experience

Work Experience Programme (16-18 year olds)

The Trust provides a work experience programme for 16-18 year olds to help them make decisions about their academic and career choices. If you are interested in gaining work experience with us, application can be made through Charter – our work experience brokers. We try to facilitate as many requests as possible, however, this is not always possible depending on the level of demand for places in certain disciplines and specialties.

How to Apply

Students can apply for a work experience by completing a Charter application form which should be available from the careers teacher in your school or college. The application is submitted by the careers teacher on your behalf.

For Careers Teachers

If you are a Careers teacher and want to find out more about Charter, go to their website: http://charter-ni.com/site/careers/

Placements

The Trust also offers adult placement opportunities to help people enhance their career, do research or simply develop themselves. People on placement are supernumerary - this means that they do not receive payment from Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

How to apply

Individuals wishing to apply for an unpaid development placement should contact the Trust Service area where they wish to be placed to discuss the possibility of a placement being supported. If the placement can be facilitated, then you will be asked to complete a placement agreement pack as appropriate to the activity being undertaken and submit it to the Trust manager who will be overseeing the placement.

As the range of placement activities are diverse in nature, they require specific documentation unique to the circumstances of each placement, therefore the Trust service area will provide the relevant paperwork for you to complete as appropriate.

It may be necessary, depending on the nature of the placement, for individuals to undergo an AccessNI or police check prior to the placement agreement being issued.

We try to facilitate as many placement requests as we can, but it is not always possible due to service needs or high levels of demand in certain disciplines and specialties.

If you wish to know more about our Placement Activity Policy or have any specific queries about this process, please contact the Trust HR Learning & Development team for further assistance.
