For Children

Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
Lazy eye (the medical term for lazy eye is amblyopia) is a childhood condition occurring when the vision in one eye does not develop properly. This means that the child can see less clearly out of one eye and relies more on the ‘good’ eye.  A lazy eye is an uncommon but certainly not rare condition. It is estimated that 1 in 50 children will get one. Children are usually diagnosed with a lazy eye around the age of four.

Barnardos PACT Project
Barnardo's PACT Project (Parent and Child Together) opened in 1986 offering accommodation, assessment and support to young women aged 16 to 24 years and their children aged from birth to 3 years. The project moved to a purpose built unit in 1993.

Mental Health

Aware - Defeat Depression
Aware Defeat Depression has been working since 1996 to support all those in Northern Ireland affected by depression or bipolar disorder (manic depression). They also welcome and support carers.

Cause
CAUSE is a peer-led charity in Northern Ireland directed and staffed by past and present carers. Providing practical and emotional support to relatives and carers of people with serious mental illness.

Choice and Medication
This site exists to support staff, service users and carers in achieving safe and effective medicines management, optimising the use of medicines by providing a high quality and friendly service. The Belfast, Southern, and Northern Trusts have specialist mental health pharmacists, whilst the Western and South Eastern Trusts have pharmacists based within the acute hospital pharmacy departments. They provide clinical and dispensing activities to assist the management of medicines by service users within inpatient units.

Irish Association of Suicidology
This site is dedicated to facilitating communication between clinicians, volunteers, survivors and researchers in all matters relating to suicide and suicidal behaviour.

Minding Your Head

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Drugscope

Diplopia (Double Vision)
Double vision (medically known as diplopia) is where you see two images of a single object either some or all of the time. The two images may be one on top of the other, side by side or a mix of both.

Strabismus (Squint)
A squint (the medical name for a squint is strabismus), is a condition where your eyes look in different directions. One eye turns inwards, outwards, upwards or downwards while the other eye looks forwards. The misalignment of the eyes can be caused by a problem with the eye muscles or by an uncorrected vision problem, such as short-sightedness or long-sightedness.

Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Health Education Board for Scotland
The Health Education Board for Scotland is Scotland’s national agency for health education, health promotion, health advice and health information.

Health Development Agency

Marie Curie
