Childrens Ward – Ward 2 (Back)

The paediatric unit at Musgrave Park Hospital provides regional orthopaedic services for children from across Northern Ireland. These include planned orthopaedic procedures, rehabilitation for amputees, treatment for spinal cord injuries, continuing care following trauma (such as a road accident) and rheumatology services.

The ward admits children ranging in age from newborn to 16 years old, all with orthopaedic and rheumatic conditions – for example, children with cerebral palsy or Spina Bifida.

Children are also admitted to the ward for the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of juvenile chronic arthritis. Some children with cerebral palsy receive treatment with Botulinum injections to reduce spasticity of their limbs.

Children with chronic pain are also admitted for assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

Parents are actively encouraged to become involved in sharing in the care of their children, with overnight facilities for parents available at ward level.

The ward has 2 main areas:

Ward 2a: provides care for paediatric orthopaedic inpatients.

Ward 2b: includes a rheumatology outpatient clinic and provides care for

day procedure patients. It also has a school room and a special needs room.

The Ronald McDonald (RMCC) Family Rooms

The RMCC Family Rooms provide additional accommodation facilities for parents, while their child is an inpatient in the Children's Ward. Please contact the Ward Manager to request information on availability.
