Ilizarov Service (Back)

Ilizarov treatment is used to lengthen bones or correct bone deformities. An external fixator (frame) is fixed to the patients bone using pins and wires. The frame is periodically adjusted to lengthen the bone and stimulate new bone growth.

Ilizarov Nurse Specialists help patients undergoing Ilizarov treatment. Their skills include assessment of trauma patients in acute hospital settings through to elective admission, post-operative follow-up and outpatient review. Nurse led clinics have also been established to help assess and review patients undergoing Ilizarov treatment.
