Outcomes Assessment Unit (Back)"Outcome" is the measurement of how a patient recovers after a joint replacement, what complications (if any) occur, and how long the patient takes to regain mobility. The Outcomes Assessment Unit collects data from patients undergoing joint replacement (arthroplasty). The data is collated and analysed to identify trends and develop improvements in surgery and treatment. Patients are contacted 5 days after surgery, and again by telephone at 90 days after they leave hospital. This is to record any complications and to ensure the patient has an opportunity to seek advice or reassurance. If there are any problems, patients come back to the unit to see a member of the Outcomes Team (or an Orthopaedic Surgeon if appropriate). The Outcomes team provides a point of contact for the patient, particularly in the first three months after surgery. Each patient receives a business card with the team member’s contact number. |
