Pain Service (Back)

The development of a Pain Team within the Withers Orthopaedic Centre has been ongoing since January 1996. The team consists of a lead consultant, members from the medical, nursing, physiotherapy and pharmacy departments and a nurse specialist who ensures the smooth day-to-day running of the service.

The Acute Pain Management Service was primarily for patients being cared for at ward level following their surgery, but it has become increasingly involved in the management of chronic pain conditions such as low back pain and complex regional pain syndrome.

A telephone help line is available where patients can get advice on medication, nutrition, and relaxation techniques. A reflexology service is also available to patients.
