Health for Life
Health for life is a 6 module holistic health awareness programme aimed at improving health and well being through interactive learning. The modules covered in the programme include Alcohol/drugs, Nutrition, Stress/relaxation, Physical Activity, Cancer and Smoking. The course is informal and gives the participants a chance to engage in discussion on current health issues. The course can be delivered over a varied time period according to the needs of the group. FRESH
South Belfast and Shankill Leisure Centre will be hosting the FRESH programme from the beginning of March 2012.
FRESH (which stands for food, relaxation, exercise, self esteem and health) is a multi component healthy lifestyle programme which actively promotes healthy nutrition, physical activity and positive self esteem and is based on behaviour modification techniques.
FRESH is a community based healthy lifestyle programme for overweight 11-14 year olds who want to become more active, learn about a healthy lifestyle, get motivated and feel good about themselves, have fun and make new friends.
The programme is delivered by Community Dietitians, School Nurses and Physical activity coaches. It’s after school, it’s FREE and offers young people 2 hours of fun physical activity each week, as well as providing information on healthy food choices, changing behaviour and support for parents.
FRESH is funded by the Public Health Agency and is co-ordinated by Belfast Trust Community Nutrition and Dietetic Service in partnership with a range of other HSC Trust departments, local Councils, Sport NI, Education and Community organisations.

Weigh to Health
Weigh To Health is a 6 week programme which aims to help adults to lose weight safely with the support of a group. The programme promotes positive motivation, healthy nutrition, alongside low level physical activities in the process of weight management and is based on behaviour modification principles. Cook - it !
This is a 6-week practical “hands on” nutrition education programme. It is aimed at encouraging healthy cooking on a limited budget. It helps participants to enhance cooking skills and learn more about a balanced diet. Cook it! is delivered locally by trained tutors. Good Food Tool Kit
The Good Food Tool Kit has been produced to help ensure that local people in Belfast and the South Eastern Trust area receive accurate and practical nutrition messages on how to follow a healthy balanced diet. SOS Oral Health Programme

3-2-1 Oral Health Programme
This programme is designed to address the oral health of pre-school aged children within the nursery setting. Walk Leaders Course

Motivational Interviewing for Breast Feeding
This 2-day course is for health professionals supporting breastfeeding who see encouraging behaviour change as a valid component of their work with clients. As part of the Fit Futures Strategy, this particular course is aimed at staff involved in encouraging and supporting breastfeeding.
Aim: This training aims to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills of motivational interviewing, and its practical application in encouraging behaviour change. For further information, contact the Health Improvement Department: Telephone: (028) 9056 5421.
Breast Feeding Peer Support Programme
The aim of this programme is to recruit and train local mothers, who themselves have had a positive experience of breast feeding, to provide informal parent to parent support and encouragement to women who are trying to establish and maintain breast feeding.
This training programme provides the Peer Support Volunteers with extra breastfeeding management skills adding to their experience and expertise. For further information, contact the Health Improvement Department: (028) 9056 5421.
Dig It and Eat It !
The aim of this programme is to encourage people to grow their own fruit and vegetables. The skills learned in the garden can be adapted to grow fruit and vegetables in gardens or window boxes at home. Dig it and Eat it! trains people to grow their own produce and in addition, a dietitian working alongside Conservation Volunteers for Northern Ireland is responsible for delivering nutrition and healthy eating sessions on a balanced diet and to advise on incorporating the fruit and vegetables grown into healthy meals.

Green Gym
Green Gym is a voluntary activity run at no cost to the participants where individuals, groups and families (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult) can come along and take part in practical conservation activities that will not only improve their physical and mental health but will also help to improve their local environment.
