ASSOCIATION OF FRIENDS OF THE MATER
THE HOSPITAL WITH HIGH QUALITY PATIENT CARE
Friends of the Mater is a Registered Charity committed to enhancing the care and comfort of patients. We raise money by running functions, inviting and receiving donations.
Money is raised to provide for:
- Medical Equipment
- The improvement of patient care
- The furnishing of relatives’ waiting rooms
- And many other worthy projects.
At this time of financial stringency the work of the Friends is of vital importance.

Since founded in 1983, over £200,000 has been raised to purchase equipment such as:
- Peak flow meter for respiratory problems.
- Gastroscope for the diagnosis of stomach disorders.
- Sigmoidoscope for investigating bowel complaints.
- Cardiac monitors.
- Portable foetal scanner.
- Ultrasound equipment for X-ray department.
- Safety cabinet for preparing Cytotoxic drugs.
- Computer equipment for operating theatres.
- Laboratory equipment.
- Special beds for preventing pressure sores.
- Furnishing of relatives’ waiting rooms.
- Intraoptical Scanner.
- Ultrasound scanner for detecting tumours during surgery.
- Syringe drivers for pain control.
- Special mattresses for trolleys in A/E.
