While you are in hospital you will be under the care of a Consultant
and his/her medical team. You can discuss your treatment with the medical team, and the nurse can arrange for you to talk to the Consultant if you wish.

The Consultant and medical team will not discuss your treatment with anyone without asking for your permission first (this includes your relatives and friends).

Nursing Staff
|
Each ward is staffed by a team of nurses who will make sure you receive the highest standard of care during your stay in hospital. Your named nurse will be your link with other hospital staff, and if he or she is not available your nursing team will help you with any questions you have.

|
Physiotherapists
|
Physiotherapy staff are involved in the care of patients in all areas of the hospital. They use exercise and specialist techniques to help you return to as much activity and independence as possible.
|
|
|
Occupational Therapists
|
Occupational Therapists help patients regain independence in their daily lives. If you are having problems dressing, bathing or eating, for example, the occupational therapist will help you practice these skills and advise on any equipment you might need.
|
|
|
Social Workers
|
Social workers are experienced in dealing with emotional, practical and social problems arising from illness. They can provide counselling, emotional support and practical help if you need it after you leave hospital.
|

|
Activity Nursing
|
Activity Nursing aims to fill patients' free time in a constructive and beneficial way. The provision of purposeful activities can reduce boredom, increase self-esteem, encourage social relationships and contribute to the overall wellbeing of patients.

|
|
Speech and Language Therapists
|
Speech and Language Therapists help patients who have speech and language and/or swallowing problems. They are also involved in teaching other ways of communication.
|
|
|
Dietitians
|
Dietitians teach patients how to choose the correct food for the dietary management of their condition and ensure that their nutritional needs are met.
|
|
|
Diagnostic Imaging Team
|
Radiographers operate imaging equipment to assist with your diagnosis and post-operative care. This may involve X-rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), bone densitometry (DEXA) or computerised tomography (CT).

|
Neuropsychologist
Neuropsychologists work as part of the Neurorehabilitation team. They are responsible for assessing your cognitive (i.e. thinking, intellectual) skills, and giving advice on emotional or behavioural difficulties.

Students
|
Musgrave Park Hospital is a teaching hospital, and students from all medical and health professions visit the wards regularly. They work under the direction of qualified members of staff and your co-operation in helping them is appreciated. If you are unhappy with the involvement of students in any aspect of your care please tell a member of staff.
