Learning DisabilityThe Trust believes that adults and children with a learning disability should have access to the full range of health and social care services available to all citizens. Therefore as well as receiving specialist learning disability services, people with a learning disability will also access general services. Central to developing and providing care is the objective of increasing and reorienting the range of services available to people of all ages with a learning disability: from expanding respite care options in the community; the resettlement of the remaining long-stay hospital patients; developing alternatives to hospital admissions and re-admissions; and focusing hospital services on short/medium assessment and treatment for those with more complex needs. A agreed resettlement programme is now in place to resettle those patients currently being cared for on resettlement wards in Muckamore Abbey Hospital A business case has been approved for the redevelopment of Muckamore Abbey Hospital into a smaller regional specialist facility. Key strategic priorities for this programme of care are: • to develop a range of community learning disability services e.g. community support teams, community based treatment and respite; • to develop additional day care places; • to implement the Business Case for the Muckamore Abbey Hospital Service Redevelopment project; • to work with patient’s, relatives and community providers in the implementation of the agreed resettlement programme from Muckamore Abbey Hospital; • to complete a revised Strategic Context Document and Outline Business Case for the reprovisioning of children’s assessment and treatment Services from Conicar Unit, Muckamore Abbey Hospital to a community location; • the establishment and continuing development of a clinical governance framework to clearly evidence the improvements we make to the lives of clients, patients, their families and carers. |
