Area of North & West Belfast

North & West Belfast is an area with high levels of unemployment, where many people have poor health. Because of this, a high proportion of the population can depend on the health and social care services which the Trust provides.

Management Structure

The Trust Board within North and West Belfast Health and Social Services Trust is made up of Executive and Non Executive Directors including the Chairman and Chief Executive. Non Executive Directors are chosen for the range of skills and knowledge they are able to bring to the task of providing health and social services to the population of North and West Belfast and Muckamore Abbey Hospital.

The Trust Board is accountable to the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety for the formulation of health and social care strategies in line with regional policy. It supervises their implementation, evaluates performance and maintains accountability and is responsible for achieving financial targets.

The Trust Board is committed to ensuring that its work should be made as transparent as possible and as such all meetings are held in public.

Meetings are normally held on the last Wednesday of alternative months. The time and venue of meetings is advertised in the press and published on the Trust’s web site.

Sub-Committee

Audit Committee – ensures that the Trust carries out its business with honesty and openness.

Remuneration Committee – makes recommendations on pay for senior officers

The Complaints Review Committee – ensures complaints are handled properly

Endowment and Gifts Committee ensures that money donated is used in the most effective way.

Contracts

The Trust holds Service Agreements / Contracts with a wide range of independent sector organisations and HPSS partners who provide services on behalf of the Trust.

Partnerships

A partnership approach to services has been a key element in the Trust’s strategic delivery plan. Sustaining and working with community groups and voluntary organisations is a key plank of the Trust’s strategy to develop and maintain skills relating to health and social wellbeing within the community of North and West Belfast. Additionally, working with the local community ensures that our services are relevant to the needs of everyone in the area.

The Trust is the lead organisation of a major partnership initiative, the Health Action Zone in North and West Belfast. Partners on the HAZ Council include:
