Summary of Services provided

North and West Belfast is an area with high levels of unemployment, where many people have poor health, subsequently, a high proportion of the population depend on the health and social care services which the Trust provides. This includes:

• a full range of community based health and social care services to approximately 144,000 people;

• specialist services for people with learning disabilities at Muckamore Abbey Hospital (These services are provided to all four health and social services boards in Northern Ireland).

• all social work services, including the protection of children and the prevention of child abuse;

• On behalf of the Eastern Health and Social Services Board, the following services are provided:

- the child health information system (CHIS);

- family planning services;

- services for people travelling abroad;

- services relating to sexual health and AIDS; and

- community nutrition and dietetic services

Locations in North & West Belfast Health & Social Services Trust

The Trust works in the community from 50 locations, including homes, day centres, health centres, clinics, hostels and social work offices. A full range of services is brought to the homes of people who cannot attend our facilities. These services include nursing, home help, chiropody, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and dental services.

Changes to services

Service changes and variations to service within year can be found in Trust Board minutes. The direction the Trust is taking can be seen in the medium / long term in the Corporate Plan and in the short term within the Trust Delivery Plan.

Contributing to Plans

We realise that we must listen to local people and users of our services if we need to provide services that meet needs. Non Clinical Services – how can public contribute to these?

A range of non-clinical services are provided by the Trust’s Hotel Services Department. These include catering, cleaning, transport, security / caretaking and laundry.
