Inpatients

Inpatients

When you arrive at the hospital, please go to the admission area indicated on your letter. There, staff will ask for your details and give you an admission form to take to the ward. If you are not well enough to do this then you may go directly to the ward and one of your relatives may get the form for you.

A child under sixteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is able to give written consent for specialised treatment.

If you are disabled or have a speech, hearing or visual impairment please let us know as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to help make your visit to the Royal go as smoothly as possible.

Cancellations

If you cannot keep your admission date please tell us as soon as possible, so that we can give your place to someone else. Please contact the ward telephone number 028 9024 0503.

Medication

Please bring with you all your current medication as it is necessary for the medical staff to know your present drugs before prescribing treatment.

Valuables

Please do not bring any valuables into hospital. This includes money (except small amounts for immediate use), jewellery and important documents. Items which are valuable and are not sent home or handed in for safe keeping will be kept at your own risk.

Facilities for patients and visitors

Patients and visitors may use the two main restaurants on the Royal site. The restaurant and coffee area in the new RVH is situated on level 2 just above the main reception desk and is open 24 hours a day. There us also Bostock Restaurant, situated close to the Children's hospital which is open Monday to Friday 8.30am - 2.15pm.

There are plans to open a large shop on the ground floor of the new hospital; in the meantime a newspaper and sweet shop on the main corridor of the old RVH is open each day from 7.30am - 8.00pm.

The Royal Hospitals operate a no smoking policy in line with other Government buildings. Outpatients and visitors are asked not to smoke while visiting the hospital. However we recognise that it is not always easy to stop, therefore patients who are admitted to hospital may use the dedicated smoking areas throughout the hospital. Please ask the nursing staff were your nearest one is and please inform staff every time you leave your ward.
