Dentistry

The Dental Hospital or School of Dentistry combines a hospital dental service with the training and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students. It is the only teaching hopsital in the province involved in the training of those who choose the dental profession as their career. In partnership with the Queen's University and BIFHE the hospital provides high quality dental teaching, research and clinical skills which are the most all embracing in the National Health Service.

We have amalgamated three schools under one roof including the dental technicians training centre, the school for dental surgery assistants and the schoof of dental hygiene.

Teaching and clinical services are carried out within four main specialties:

Oral surgery

The diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the face, teeth, jaws and facial bones.

Orthodontics

The diagnosis and treatment for functional, preventive and cosmetic purposes.

Paediatric

Outpatient facilites are provided in both the School of Dentistry and the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children while all inpatient work is carried out at the Children's Hospital. This specialty covers all aspects of dentistry pertaining to children including trauma and developmental defects.

Restorative dentistry

This specialty encompasses the management of problems created by dental caries, periodontal diseases and trauma in adults, and the restoration of defects within the oral tissues created by such disease process.
