Radiology DirectorateThe primary aim of the radiology directorate within the Royal Hospitals is to provide an imaging service for all patients which combines a high standard of technical excellence with an equally high quality of patient care, in the best possible environment that is economically attainable. To achieve this mission, the directorate has formulated a number of objectives that can be summarised as follows: • To provide the highest quality imaging service encompassing the *Alara principle in the best possible environment for all our patients. • To deliver a comprehensive range of imaging services that will be easily accessible to patients from this and other hospitals and to patients of general practitioners. • To recruit and maintain the highest calibre medical, radiographic and administrative staff. • To promote an environment for staff that is safe, productive and characterised by fair treatment, team work, open communications, personal accountabilities and development opportunities. • To provide training and education for health care professionals in association with Queen's University, the University of Ulster and other agencies. • To promote and support scientific and clinical research. • To make cost effective use of all resources and to maintain expenditure within budget. The radiology directorate compromises the following sub-directorates: • main department, Royal Hospitals • accident & emergency department, Royal Hospitals • neuro-radiology, Royal Hospitals • nuclear medicine, Royal Hospitals • children's department, Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children • magnetic resonance imaging, Royal Hospitals • Royal/Jubilee maternity service • Elliot Dynes rehabilitation unit • school of dentistry A full range of diagnostic imaging and interventional techniques are available to referring clinicians within the Royal and to other clinicians throughout the province. Open access to all general practitioners is provided covering a full range of plain film studies and the vast majority of special procedures. |
