Service Provided
Edgcumbe Assessment and Therapy Unit specialises in dementia day support services and provides over 50 places each day for people living in East Belfast and Castlereagh.
Establishing routines within the unit promotes familiarity and continuity and short span stimulating activities (reminiscence, music, art etc ) encourages people to build relationships.

Accessing the Service:
Applications for attendance should be made through a recognised health or social care worker and completed on the appropriate referral forms. A medical history, day centre checklist and transport screening must be attached to the referral and sent in before the person can attend Edgcumbe. We recommended that a visit should be arranged for the person to view us prior to starting.

Edgcumbe ATU does not accept self-referrals.
Eligibility Criteria

People who are referred should have a diagnosis of dementia or display symptoms of cognitive impairment.
People referred should require the ongoing specialist need and management provided by dementia day care services.
People will be experiencing difficulty with daily living and be in need of support in the community.
The carer is under stress and they require daily respite for the person they are caring for.

Carers Services

Carers Assessments
A Carers Needs Assessment will look at the care or support you provide as a carer and how it affects your life. It will explore what support you have and what support you may need to help you if you want to continue caring for your relative or friend. It is an assessment for you as a carer, not the person you care for.
