Our Clinics

Outpatient Clinics

Consultant staff all undertake both adult and paediatric outpatient clinics based in the outpatient department of the Royal Victoria Hospital (Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons, Level 6b, outpatients building) and the Royal Belfast Hospital for sick children (Tuesday mornings, RBHSC). Clinics are designated as : immunology, allergy, or primary immune deficiency.

Consultant care is shared among the team which currently includes two specialist trainees and a clinical academic fellow. All cases are discussed and management plans agreed at post clinic meetings.

In addition, we undertake a joint adult Immunology/Respiratory clinic (Lung Defence Clinic) with Dr D Downey at the Belfast City Hospital on one Friday morning per month. Multi-specialist immunology/paediatric respiratory and immunology/paediatric infectious diseases (including HIV) clinics are established with Prof Mike Shields, Dr Gary Doherty, Dr Dara O’Donoghue, Dr Paul Jackson and Dr Sharon Christie (RBHSC).

Immunology Day Centre clinics

Many Immunology Day Centre clinics are ‘nurse-led’ clinics.

This means that nursing staff will assess you and initiate your regular treatment. Whilst medical staff are not routinely available at these clinics, your tretament will have been prescribed by the doctors and fully discussed with the nursing team. Patients progress is discussed at weekly medical/nursing team meetings. Your GP remains your primary practitioner for most medical assessments and prescriptions.

For some appointments, eg: allergy challenge test appointments, both medical and nursing staff will be present.
