Cancer Treatment
The Belfast Trust provides a comprehensive range of services for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and blood disorders. Oncology ( the treatment of cancer) and Haematology (the treatment of blood disorders) are grouped together in the Trust because the treatment for these conditions is often similar.
Our aim is to provide the best possible standards of treatment, care and support for patients and carers affected by cancer and haematological conditions.
Oncology
The Oncology Service based in the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital provides Inpatient, Outpatient and Day Case services. The Cancer Centre provides cancer treatment for people living in Belfast as well as a number of specialist regional services for people throughout Northern Ireland.
The main treatments offered to patients include:
- Chemotherapy (Both as Inpatient and Day Case procedures)
- Radiotherapy (This is a regional service so all patients in NI who require radiotherapy attend the Cancer Centre)
- Brachytherapy
- Ablation Therapy
The Oncology service also links with the 4 Cancer Units based at Ulster, Antrim, Craigavon and Altnagelvin Hospitals. The service is also has an extensive Clinical trials programme for both Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy.
