Medicine and Surgery
The Belfast Trust provides a wide range of general medicine and surgical services which are provided from a number of wards across the 3 main acute hospital sites in Belfast - the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast City Hospital and the Mater Hospital.
The service includes the following medical specialties:
- Gastroenterology
- Hepatology
- Infectious Disease Service
- Genito-urinary Medicine (GUM) Clinic
- Respiratory Medicine
and surgical areas:
- General Surgery
- Endocrine Surgery
- Gastro-intestinal surgery
- Colorectal Surgery & Endoscopy.
Emergency Departments
3 Adult Emergency departments operate from each of the main acute sites servicing the population of the Greater Belfast area and beyond (approx 340,000 people). On average there are approximately 200,000 Emergency department attendances each year.
The Trust also manages the GP Out of Hours Service for the Belfast. Approximately 95,000 calls are made to this service each year. Telephone advice is always provided for patients and clients and may be followed up with either home or centre visits.
