Paediatric Gastroenterology Department

The Paediatric Gastroenterology team provides care for children with gastroenterology and hepatology problems and diseases in Northern Ireland. We provide gastroenterology specialist nurse led clinics, gastroenterology consultant led clinics, joint liver clinic and transition clinics and IBD transition clinics.


Paediatric Gastroenterology provides diagnosis, management and outpatient follow up of patients with chronic conditions, including:

  • Inflammatory bowel diseases
  • Short gut syndrome
  • Home PN
  • Allergic GI disorders
  • Chronic liver and pancreatic disorders
  • Transplant patients (liver, small bowel and multi organ)

This service works closely with gastroenterology and hepatology centres in Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Great North Children’s Hospital (Newcastle), Alder Hay Children’s Hospital (Liverpool) and Great Ormond Street Hospital (London).

How to Access this Service

If you would like your child to be seen by the gastroenterology service, you should contact your GP or hospital consultant, and they will be able to refer your child if needed.

This service does not accept direct referrals from parents.
