Paediatric Neurology

The Paediatric Neurology service is based in Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children (Children’s Hospital) and delivers outreach clinics across Northern Ireland.

The service covers all aspects of Paediatric Neurology, including:

  • Epilepsy
  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Neurometabolic disorders
  • Demyelinating disorders
  • Brain tumours
  • Stroke

There are currently three acute neurologists and one consultant in Neurodisability in this service who are supported by a number of Allied Health Professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, clinical and neuropsychologists and social workers. There is close co-operation with other specialities in Belfast Trust as well as with paediatricians in hospitals throughout Northern Ireland.

Some children are referred to Britain for further intervention, including consideration for epilepsy surgery.

 

How to Access the Service:

If you would like your child to be seen by the Neurology service, you should contact your hospital consultant, and they will be able to refer your child if needed.

The Paediatric Neurology service is based at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

A Neuromuscular clinic is also delivered at the Belfast City Hospital
